Systems in Medicine (and everywhere else, too.)

Atul Gawande gave this TED Talk about how surgeons are beginning to make a transformation in how they operate by adopting some very simple tools, but with the caveat that the transformation is going very slowly because they have a culture of the lone cowboy acting boldly. I've heard some teachers describe teaching that way. I don't think checklists are the missing ingredient for teachers, but systems thinking probably is a key component that is missing from most schooling.
